Co-Investigator

Associate Professor, Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine Wake Forest University

Dr. Thomas Shupe has accumulated over 30 years of experience in working with in vivo and in vitro models for human physiology and pathophysiology.  Early in his career, these models focused primarily on models for liver regeneration.  Together with colleagues at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM), Dr. Shupe has adapted the fundamental principles of tissue engineering into the development of three-dimensional models for a variety of different tissue types.  Dr. Shupe strategic and scientific direction for many of WFIRM’s “Body-on-a-Chip” Program efforts.   He also provides scientific leadership for a clinical manufacturing effort to produce these tissue engineered in vitro models at a commercial scale.
