Welcome to the U.S. National Science Foundation Center for COMmunity Empowering Pandemic Prediction and Prevention from Atoms to SocietieS (NSF COMPASS)!
The vision of the NSF COMPASS Center is to reach an aspirational destination: A world where we can accurately foresee pandemics and minimize their impact. The center seeks to tackle the grand challenge of uncovering the genetic, molecular, cellular, and chemical rules of life underlying virus-host interactions. The center will achieve this goal through the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and biomedical technologies and integrating them with community-based and ethically grounded research.
The center is a collaboration among Virginia Tech, Cornell University, Meharry Medical College, Northern Arizona University, the University of Michigan, and Wake Forest University.
The NSF COMPASS Center is funded by the National Science Foundation’s Predictive Intelligence for Pandemic Prevention (PIPP) program. The PIPP program supports three other centers.
- NSF CPI led by the University of California, Davis
- NSF ESCAPE Center led by the University of Kentucky
- NSF APPEX Center led by Arizona State University
