Mira Chaplin received her PhD at the University of Michigan in 2025. She is currently a Postdoctoral fellow at Eawag (the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology), where she studies virus behavior in onsite water treatment processes. Her PhD focused on predicting virus reduction in chlorination and coagulation treatment, using laboratory methods and statistical approaches to literature analysis.

At NSF COMPASS, she used large language models to speed up data extraction from literature sources on microbial decay. She also assists in the development of user interfaces to ensure that LLM tools for data extraction fit the needs of engineering and science researchers.
